The Street

in the street downstairs
passed over by each
are the cobblestones
all placed so well
so nobody will know
where they come from

scuffled by the people
inscribing the histories
of many mundane lives
but important
and welcome by each
though hard to the child
who falls
exciting nonetheless
over which passes
the pursuance of life
with its few frivolities
in the city
where culture thrives
sought after
in all those incredible ways

and each young boy
who runs by
on his way to a future
lived in those streets
not stopping to wonder
how old his path

and the street below
is the door and exit
to each house
where the people sit
in their dwellings
with sometimes comfortable
but dissatisfied lives
only to retreat again
to the street
and join every other
